Fees and Costs

Fees

Individual youth fees for all sections are $125 per term.  This is made up of a $69.75 per term levy to Scouting NZ, and a $55.25 per term fee for Chartwell Scout Group to cover the costs of running the group.  In addition there is a one off investiture fee of $30 that covers the cost of the group scarf, woggle, and group/zone badges. If you start part way through the term you will be invoiced for a part term fee.  Families are invoiced in the week prior to the start of each school term. Payment is expected within 7 days.

Payment plans are also available. This can be discussed directly with the Treasurer. WINZ/Oranga Tamariki has also supported families by paying fees to SCOUTS New Zealand in the past.  For more information to see if you qualify, please call 0800 SCOUTS.

Chartwell Scout Group also operates a Helping Hands fund to subsidise the term fees for keen youth members, who may not be able to attend due to financial reasons.  Please contact you section leader, group leader or the treasurer to find out what criteria apply.

If you want to skip a term, because, for example, your child plays winter sport, this is also possible. You will need to pay the Scouting NZ levy of around $69.75 for every term skipped.

Other Costs

A uniform shirt costs between $10 (second hand) and $45 (new).

Term fees cover weekly activities at the scout hall. Other events such as camps and activities off site may incur a separate charge. One example of this is an activity cost of $5 when the Cubs go to Waterworld to do their swimming badge. A two night camp would cost about $60-$70.

Sometimes your child will need to bring something from home to contribute to an activity. For example, when the Cubs make pikelets on the hobo stoves each member of the six will bring an ingredient (milk, eggs, flour).

Fundraising

It is expected that all families participate in fundraising activities.  We run Sausage Sizzles, chocolate/pie sales, Fieldays support, amongst other activities.  Fundraising is for items that are not covered by the fees, for example large maintenance items related to the hall, new tents, section activities such as sleepovers, camps, and jamborees.
